Calling on Community: YOU!

Michael & I are about to embark on one of the most heart-breaking and heart-opening experiences that we have ever experienced. During our upcoming travels abroad, we will be devoting 2 weeks of service at the Ganga Prem Hospice (GPH) in India. Our guru (spiritual teacher) Nani Ma works closely with GPH and is committed to caring for children and adults during their final days. We are reaching out to ask for your help to support GPH, Nani Ma, and us. Please read the story below to learn about this wonderful organization and how you can donate to a good cause. Thank you for your consideration, and bless you all!

It was January 2015. Michael & I had just finished leading an epic 18-day journey through Southern India. We said our goodbyes to the group & set off for what was next on our agenda: traveling to Northern India: Rishikesh, the "yoga capital of the world". We took a flight + a train + a rickshaw to get into town. We had a few missions for our time here: experience as much yoga/meditation as possible, dip our toes in the sacred Ganges River, take some Indian music lessons, and meet a very special woman that we'd heard of, named Nani Ma. The day arrived and we set off in a bumpy rickshaw that took us way out of town and into a beautiful area filled with green fields and chirping birds. We got to Nani Ma's little ashram and she sweetly invited us into her humble room, where we sat on the floor just the three of us. She proceeded to share her stories and wisdom with us for a few hours. She'd traveled to India as a young adult and never left. Coming with a desire to understand the meaning of life more clearly, she met a guru and began years of spiritual studies and practices with him. You can read her full story here.

Never had we met someone like Nani Ma. There is no one I've crossed paths with in this lifetime that is more "real deal" than her. She exudes pure love and compassion from her heart. You can see the spark of inner light in her eyes and (mostly toothless) smile. She lives a life devoted to spiritual practice and selfless service. A big part of her work is in the organization Ganga Prem Hospice (GPH).

GPH is a spiritually oriented, non-profit hospice for terminally ill cancer patients in India. Can you believe that in India approximately 80% of cancer diagnoses occur once the patient is already in a terminal stage? This was shocking to us! The hospice provides medical, social, emotional, and spiritual support for individuals and their loved ones as they face life threatening cancer and in their ongoing grief. They offer in-home treatment for patients and have recently opened the first wing of an in-patient facility near Nani Ma's ashram.

We are SO excited for this next adventure in our yoga journey! We will be work closely with Nani Ma and the staff to provide care and love to patients and families in their time of transition. We will also have the opportunity to teach yoga to the hospice staff and help in some office work/web development on behalf of the organization. We are calling on the power of community - YOU! Please help us raise funds for Ganga Prem Hospice in northern India. When you click the link below, you will gain access to our fundraising campaign, which has some beautiful videos linked in it so that you can see firsthand the loving work that is being done.

DONATE HERE! No amount you give is too small - every penny will be put to good use! By donating, we will send you a few updates with stories and photos from our time in India. It is because of you that this is possible! We are eternally grateful. If you have any questions at all, please let us know. Also, we welcome you to share the campaign with your friends/family to help increase the awareness and support for GPH.

Love from on the mat and around the world, Tristina
